Spencer-designed Arts & Crafts Home Unloaded For $1.04M

New, 4 comments

Just blocks from the brilliant Thatcher Woods, this charming arts and crafts home in River Forest recently sold to the tune of $1.04M. Set back on a big ole half-acre lot and surrounded by a thicket of mature trees, there's lots of room to spread out. The historic residence, built in 1915, was designed by Prairie-style architect Robert Spencer. Inside, the cup runneth over with original details like quartersawn oak, moldings, light fixtures, and elegant woodwork. The roomy, 3,300-square foot home is also adorned with over 100 beautifully restored stained glass windows, lending it even more architectural cache. Listed at $1.2M in the weeks leading up to the sale, the buyer was able to wiggle the final price down by about $160K.
