Whoa! For the number of times we've circled through Bucktown, it's surprising to have never noticed this broken accordion-looking PoMo house. On Cortland just east of Damen, the four-bed 1995 contempo just hit the MLS for $750K, only a small notch above its 2001 sale price. What looks like a cluster of units is just one single family home with a lot of variety. Unlike the exterior, the interiors are "not in your face modern" but they're also at a pretty big disconnect from the rambling futuristic facade. A good architect can pull off an all-around edgy design that's also livable. So, given the context, we're a little underwhelmed by the rooms. Irregular angles do most of the work, but we really like the glass block walls the permeate the stairwell, and the kitchen with its decorative tin ceiling (or something to that effect). Living spaces measure a whopping 4,500 square feet and include a finished walk-out basement, sauna, hot tub, terrace, and deck. The home's footprint devours the lot, so don't expect any greenspace unless you're willing to tear down the garage. Still, this is a lot of house and a lot of look for the price.
