After the historic Lake Shore Athletic Club narrowly escaped the wrecking ball a few years back, plans were approved to convert the building, located on Chestnut and Lake Shore Drive, to 138 senior housing units. The property's ownership was ultimately unable to secure financing for the project. Now, per a comminique from Ald. Brendan Reilly, we're pleased to report that the owners are going forward with plans to create 200 market rate dwelling units in the building. Booth Hansen has been brought in to work on the conversion, which will include a resident lounge, pool, and fitness center, along with improvements to the exterior. Floorplans and other rough sketches are available via Ald. Reilly's newsletter. [Reilly Reports]
