John T. Hetherington, like his son Murray, built some big houses on the South Side. This one, in Beverly, has the posture of an English manor with complementary landscaping but seems also to borrow from the nascent Prairie School, in the interior layout and window design. It's a brawny ol' home, measuring around 3,000 square feet with four bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. And many intact original features are to be had: leaded windows, hardwood floors, beamed ceilings, a seductive entry foyer, library, and a pair of fireplaces. Add to this a succession of great built-ins (deep window sills and a breakfast nook, for instance). There's also a gorgeous basement lounge which, if not original, certainly looks the part. New to market as an estate sale, the ask—$465K—seems beyond reproach for all this house on an immense 100' x 187' city lot.
