Commercial Buildings Get In On "Retrofit Chicago"

Fresh from the City of Chicago's virtual "Press Room" is an announcement that Mayor Emanuel's Retrofit Chicago program will made be available to commercial buildings. Originally intended for public buildings, Retrofit Chicago is a $200-$225 million trust fund designed to improve energy efficiency with the help of private investment. It is part of the larger Chicago Infrastructure Trust, which was approved by City Council in late April. A total of 14 buildings, including the Wrigley Building, have signed on to the new program, known as Retrofit Chicago’s Commercial Building Initiative. The initiative will result an energy reduction of 20% in the next five years--a total savings of over $5 million—while creating 100 new jobs. [City of Chicago]
