Last weekend, we braved the heat and took a trip to Printers Row, where the new Jones College Prep High School is beginning to make an impression. During our last visit seven months ago, foundation work was getting underway. Now, the steel skeleton is about 5 stories high, just shy of its final height of 7 stories. The new school has taken the place of a large surface lot at State and Balbo that was once partially occupied by the Pacific Garden Mission. Designed by Perkins+Will, the 278,000-square foot building will be able to accommodate 1,250 students when it opens in the fall of 2013. The $91M facility, which is seeking LEED Silver Certification, was paid for with TIF funds.
