On the Block: Lincoln Park's Magical "Urban Country Estate"

One of the wildest properties on the market, bar none, we're revisiting Lincoln Park's "urban country estate" today thanks to an ongoing price slide. When we talked it up in October, the 10,000-square-foot mansion by architects Burns & Beyerl was asking $3.25M (down from a late-2008 high of $4.2M). The new, pricechop-adjusted ask? $2.795M. A sprawling cartoonish palace, the home presents six bedrooms, four baths, gaping common rooms, a set of stairs built into an adobe-like fireplace, and a 40' x 40' enclosed cobblestone courtyard. For added intrigue, sale of a neighboring parcel at 1345 W Webster has been pending for two months now. Whoever scores that property and this one has the opportunity to combine the parcels, growing the grounds to 75' x 125'— a total of three city lots. Of course, unifying the parcels may imply tearing down the darling little cottage now occupying the site— its 860 sf could hardly be any less consequential.
