Custom-Designed Contemporaine Condo Sells for $1.9M

Closed just earlier today: This 5/3.5 custom number in The Contemporaine, Ralph Johnson's Near North trophy residential building. We wonder if the sale price, $600K below February's initial ask, bodes poorly for the crowning penthouse unit; on the market for $2.95M (down from $3.4M earlier this year). The units couldn't be more different: while the just-sold 9th-floor unit boasts at least as much interior space (3,700 sf) and more bedrooms (five to two) than the penthouse, its balcony is comparatively dinky beside the lusciously-landscaped 3,000 sf agglomeration of rooftop outdoor spaces. Will that outlandish asset be enough to keep the ask in the high-two millions? Impossible to say. As for interior design, we've gotta give the edge to the sold unit. The minimalist space, crafted by Jessica Margot Design, has exposed concrete ceilings, beautiful light fixtures, silk wall coverings, a great little open bar space, dark hardwoods, and bodacious views. Even with the substantial price chop, someone did end up paying $1.9M. Not too shabby.
