10,000-Square-Foot Compound Lists for $4.5M in Bucktown

New, 37 comments

Truth be told, we've noticed this building overhanging the Bloomingdale Trail and figured it for a multi-unit condo development. How wrong we were— it's built for one. Just about filling out its jumbo lot of 57' x 154', the 10,000-square-foot monster enhances its fortress-like air by belonging to a gated subdivision. Built in 2006 in a vaguely Mediterranean style, the home has five ensuite bedrooms, a media room, library, sauna, six fireplaces (one of them outdoors), a sunken courtyard, and a basement playroom. The whole house is fitted with a remote audio system. Extended outdoor spaces crawl along the building's ridge line. The whole thing is a recipe for some serious power tripping. The asking price of $4,499,900, while astronomical for Bucktown, is half what it might be were it in Lincoln Park or the Gold Coast. Cold comfort as you're emptying the piggy bank.
