Personal Residence of Keck Bros. Hits the Market for $449K

New, 6 comments

Back in March we flagged the listing of a 3-bed unit in Hyde Park's Keck-Gottschalk-Keck Apartments as a rare event. We stand by our pronouncement, but rarer still is yesterday's listing of the actual unit that the famed modernist architect Keck brothers called home for a time. A floor below the earlier listing and the exact same size (1,246 sf) with the exact same balcony configuration, the owners of this 3/2 have done well by its vintage pedigree, littering the space with modernist furniture and highlighting the fireplace and sculptural windows. Other designer elements include the cork floors and millwork. If there's a drawback, it would have to be the smallish kitchen— an inescapable byproduct of the floorplan. The only real difference between this and the upper floor unit, apart from decor, is price. This unit, perhaps owing to its special tie to the architects, is asking $449K or $99K more than its neighbor. According to the listing, the Keck-Gottschalk-Keck Apartments was named a top 40 building by Chicago Magazine.
