For $7,999: A 4,000-square-foot "New Orleans" Home

New, 11 comments

Here now, a startlingly unusual and expensive rental on the Near West Side. This old N'awlins "French Quarter"-style red brick mansion is up for rent, effective immediately. Offering four bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths, the sprawling 4,000-square-foot mansion is likely not as dimly lit as the photos would have you believe. Upon inspection, there's a lot of quirky stuff here like the eat-in conservatory, the catacombs-like stone walled basement, the bedroom with its retired B & B feel, and the unexpected deck huddled behind the pitched roof. Built in 1904, and one of the lovelier structures we've seen listed for sale or for rent, we're still not sure where an owner gets off asking $7,999/month for anything west of Damen. S/he must be fishing for a loaded, coveted lover of novelty.
