George Maher's Landmark "Poppy" House Sells for $2.05M

It's just another day in Chicago when a slice of our architectural heritage changes hands. George Washington Maher's Magerstadt House, or "Poppy" as it's affectionately known thanks to the row of stained glass poppy windows and stone etchings, has just sold for $2.05M after being priced at $2.5M a year ago. The unimpeachable Kenwood Prairie mansion has six beds, five-and-a-half baths, a breathtaking foyer, three fireplaces, and some modern touches (a little heavy-handed when it comes to the kitchen and drably carpeted basement). But the majority of the exquisitely-crafted 6,500-square-foot space is intact. To bad it can only belong to one family, and that family isn't yours.
