This is a sad thing, folks. The landmark Indian Boundary Park fieldhouse was largely wrecked by fire Sunday afternoon. The fire started in the upper level and caused the roof to collapse. Interior beams crumbled and windows shattered. The 1929 building by architect Clarence Hatzfeld is, like many fieldhouses, the park's hub of programming. But it's far more ornate and majestic than most. West Rogers Park resident Mike Burns isn't too concerned about the neighborhood's response to rebuilding, telling the Tribune that "this neighborhood is pretty strong," but also lamenting the lost craftsmanship that'll be nearly impossible to replicate.
