Construction of 250-Room Virgin Hotel to Begin in May

We reported in October that Virgin Hotels was to insert its chicness into the classic 27-story art deco tower at 203 N Wabash (the former Old Dearborn Bank Building). We now have a timeline for that event. The New York-based company will get to work on its first Chicago location in May, in partnership with developer John Buck Co., as it starts rolling out a nationwide expansion. Crain's supplied the update, which is sourced to BidClerk. Along with the 250 hotel rooms, the 136,000-square-foot project will include general renovation and the construction of pools (that's right, more than one) and saunas. Prior indication was that the conversion will wrap by late 2013.
