In case you didn't know it, Kentucky basketball star Anthony Davis is a product of Chicago high schools. You'd be forgiven for assuming this means he came up through one of the city's sports powerhouses. On the contrary, as Blair Kamin reveals in a Cityscapes column, he's a grad of Perspectives Charter School—a small gym-less academic-centered school on the Near South Side. Why does Kamin care? Just so happens the Perspectives building is an award-winning Ralph Johnson (of Perkins + Will) design. Revisit the odd wedge-shaped building in Kamin's review for the Architectural Record. And watch Davis dominate in tonight's NCAA championship game. [Cityscapes]
