Architect David Haid built and dwelled in this subdued modernist home amidst a crowd of boisterous Evanston Victorians from 1968 until his death in 1993. A student of Mies Van Der Rohe, and, most significantly, architect of the 'Ferris Bueller' "garage", Haid conceived his home as a direct response to the block's overblown Victorians. Dennis Rodkin profiles the home in today's Deal Estate column. The single-story structure, like the 'Bueller' garage, has a glass walled-perimeter. Those walls are encased by a brick-walled courtyard. The result is transparency and privacy. Under contract since June, the sale just closed for $1.1M. [Deal Estate]
