Amidst the strip mall-infested North & Clybourn shopping district sit two outposts of urban density: the SoNo towers. When developer Smithfield Properties first proposed the two-phase project, it probably didn't imagine so much time would pass between the construction of both buildings. The 28-story SoNo West, completed back in 2009, was the first to go skyward. For years it stood alone as the recession played out, until early 2011 when ground finally broke on the second tower. Flash-forward a year or so, and SoNo East is nearly complete and readying itself for June occupancy. Designed by Berkelhamer Architects and Joe Antunovich, the list of amenities at the 22-story, 324-unit rental tower goes on and on: dog run, WIFI, 204-car garage, ZIP car availability, fitness center, and 4'-5' stainless steel pool. Units will contain 9-foot ceilings, Italian marble, balconies, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Finally, one of the building's more unique features is "Club SoNo," an 8,000-square foot indoor area with pool tables, party rooms, and more. Enjoy the pics!
