Best of Bucktown's Urban Sandbox Lists Anew for $2.499M

New, 7 comments

Urban Sandbox, that striking Bucktown plantation of contemporary houses and condominiums, first gained major notoriety when this home—listed for $2.499M—won the Best in American Living Awards' grand prize for the Midwest in 2009. Sponsored by the National Association of Homebuilders, that's pretty huge industry kudos. Curbed's been tracking the status of The Sandbox closely over the past year-and-a-half, and we have to stress the resale of this towering Osterhaus McCarthy Architects-designed single family as a major event for lovers of casual, fluid floorplans, whimsical outdoor space (the deck actually has a sandbox), and bright modern interiors. If there's a theme, it's this: almost every room is anointed with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. Other killer stuff: a series of decks culminating in the 644 sf garage-top deck; five bedrooms; media room; and elevator. Total square footage runs well over 6,000. Bought quickly for $2.3M at the market's peak in 2008, the sellers have the moxie to shoot for more.
