The same developer behind a 50-story rental building currently under construction in River North also has plans for the South Loop. According to Chicago Real Estate Daily, Amli Residential is purchasing a 3.5-acre site on the southwest corner of Clark and Polk across from Dearborn Park. The site is just up the block from another one of its projects, AMLI 900, which was completed in 2008. The architecture firm NORR designed two 11-story, L-shaped buildings for the project. The site plan also calls for about 280 parking spaces, which will be located behind the buildings and up against neighboring Metra tracks. If Amli CEO Greg Mutz has his way, the 398-unit development would break ground sometime this year. The development parcel had been the focal point of a 1,000-unit plan by AvalonBay Communities, which called for twin 40+ story towers. That folded in '08. More to come as the AMLI plan takes shape!
