The preservationist blog PriarieMod is voicing justifiable concern for a handful of North Shore John Van Bergen buildings. One of their readers tipped them to the particular vulnerability of the non-landmarked Irving house at 1318-20 Isabella Street in Wilmette. Closely resembling Frank Lloyd Wright's Isabel Roberts House in River Forest, word is that a demolition inquiry has been made with the town. The other piece of news is the bank possession of Elgin's Chicago Junior School campus and its cluster of Van Bergen structures. What will become of the sprawling wooded campus? Van Bergen was an occasional Wright-collaborator and his solo works express a clear reverence for Wright. A couple weeks back Curbed profiled Van Bergen's Allan Miller House, for sale in South Shore.
