A few weeks back, we told you about Gilt City Chicago's unusual apartment deal with The Mondial, at 910 W Huron. The handful of 2-beds along with a 2-bed deluxe and penthouse were set to be offered at deep discount for a brief span. That span has ended, and it seems the penthouse was the only unit not to rent. We found it on Zillow, back at its $7,500/mo level as of Thursday. Although the discount was insanely good— two-thirds off the rent for the first three months of a year lease—the notion of your rent suddenly resetting to $7,500 after being at $2,500 would shell-shock many a deal seeker. Not many folks can foot this kind of rent in the first place, and would they really wish to spend it in this chunk of River West, a bit of a no-man's-land?
Keeping it in perspective then, this is still a colossal 14th floor penthouse with unobstructed views of virtually the entire city. There's only one or two buildings its height within a half-mile radius. The unfurnished interiors measure 3,500 sf and the wrap-around roof deck adds another 1,500. It's very white and metallic at the moment, so it'll take a lot to get it feeling homey. The building supplies a gym and doorman, but parking will set you back an extra $250/mo per space. Whatever your feelings, it's here for your viewing pleasure.
