Donald Trump is giving up on retail at the Trump International Hotel & Tower for the moment. In speaking with Crain's, he blames the stagnant retail market in Chicago for nearly three years' worth of failure in luring restaurants, stores, or anything beyond the hotel-tied salon to the four floors of riverfront retail space. But this is The Donald after all, so you know he's playing it cool. Other observers have said retail occupancy will remain a big issue because there's only one simple access route for tourists, and that's through the Wrigley Building's plaza. It may take a "destination" restaurant anchor to overcome such an inconvenience and warm other businesses to the prospect. [Crain's]
