When you want evidence of handsome restorations, the South Side is a good place to start. The stock of downtrodden Greystones, Brownstones, and old frames is staggering, and in more speculative-happy areas like Douglas, Oakland, Kenwood, and Grand Boulevard it's economical to nab a fixer-upper and go to town.
