When you want evidence of handsome restorations, the South Side is a good place to start. The stock of downtrodden Greystones, Brownstones, and old frames is staggering, and in more speculative-happy areas like Douglas, Oakland, Kenwood, and Grand Boulevard it's economical to nab a fixer-upper and go to town. We're filling this week's Curbed Marketplace slot with an exemplar of such a practice: a 4/5 Greystone abounding in upgrades. The 4,100-square-foot, 110-year-old property has been cast in the light of a new-build with new floors and ceilings (in places), a chef's kitchen, detailed wainscoting, new spa baths, theater, game room, library, and a rooftop terrace. Six months ago, the place wasn't fit for pictures— faulty plumbing had mangled the floors and ceilings. It sold to our seller/renovator for $68K. Now, the ask is $499K. Still, this is a lot of house in an up-and-coming Hyde Park-proximate area.
