Curbed Cup Quarterfinals: (3) Hyde Park vs. (11) Andersonville

New, 23 comments

The Curbed Cup, Curbed Chicago's annual Neighborhood of the Year tournament, continues with the third quarterfinal today. The deserving (and oh-so-sexy!) candidates are presented below. This round's results will be reviewed on Friday but the poll is only open for 24 hours, starting now!

These quarterfinalists made it here with a strong voter mandate to rock the party! A-Ville mounted a pretty successful get-out-the-vote drive and Hyde Park had a lot going on in 2012— waaayyyy more than Roscoe Village, anyway. To Hyde Park's advantage: U of C expansion on several fronts; vintage apartment renovations; and Harper Court/Hyatt Place construction. To Andersonville's advantage: parklet pioneer; lots of new and expanded restaurants; and innovation of the green sort. Many commenters came to the neighborhood's defense in its first round matchup with Lincoln Square. Although some questioned the area's trajectory: "Those little parks are silly and doomed, I tells you, doomed to failure and misuse due to lack of maintenance. It's just becoming Lakeview North/New Boystown but the people there just don't wanna or won't admit it."
