The Atlantic Cities' Emily Badger illuminates a fun bit of technological drivel: Chris Reade's "Metrophors" map of Twitter-based geographical metaphors. The ubiquitous "X is the Y of Z" formula for conceptualizing and/or mocking locales is, apparently, all the rage on Twitter these days. Some are believable ("Oakland is the Newark of the West Coast"), some are boastful ("Duluth is the San Francisco of Minnesota"), and others deadly funny ("America is the Philadelphia of the world"). Badger tries her hand at one and comes up short of the mark: Chicago as the Gary of Illinois? Please. [Atlantic Cities, Metrophors]
