Until it was plastered across the internet yesterday, how many of you remembered Reagan lived in Obama's neighborhood? Oh snap is right. Too bad they missed each other by decades. A three-story apartment building at 832 E 57th Street was once home to the 40th President. His family moved to Hyde Park in 1915 from Tampico, IL and departed a year later, presumably for work. That made President Reagan 4 years old at the time of their move to Galesburg. No landmark protections have been bestowed on the building since it's not associated with Reagan's productive years. And it looks like U of C wants to bulldoze it for a strip of greenery (beside a parking lot). Hence all the commotion. [Huff Post]
