Pilsen Flirts With Affordable Housing Plan for 17th & Damen

New, 14 comments

From the folks that brought you the La Casa dorm comes an affordable housing proposal by the name Casa Queretaro, on the drawing board for the corner of 17th and Damen. A tipster led us to the rendering, and we dialed up Guacolda Reyes, VP of Community Development at The Resurrection Project, for more details. Reyes warns that the project hasn't received financing so any timeline would be premature. That's OK. We're just here to illuminate. Reyes did say that the project was presented and lauded at a Tuesday community meeting hosted by Ald. Danny Solis (25th), and confirmed the stats attached to the above rendering: 45 units of affordable rental housing within a 2-4 story tapered structure.

The winning design comes from local firm DesignBridge, which offers more perspectives of the jaunty, sharp-edged structure softened by courtyards and plantings. Two parking lots and a vacant field account for three of four corners at the intersection in question, and train tracks run close by. This development is integral to The Resurrection Project's mission, but some will simply be happy to have life at this address.
