"I have come to the conclusion recently that hospitals should not be architecturally significant structures. The problem is, no matter how state of the art the building, it is going to be obsolete within 30-40 years. Don't waste money on a grandiose building, just build something state of the art internally with the assumption that it will be torn down in the relatively short future. Technology just moves too fast. State of the art 2012 will be, I hope, hilariously primitive by 2042. That's health care. That's science.
