Art: When Skyscrapers Vanquish Murals

New, 1 comment

No one ever said growth and progress were tidy affairs. One thing that changes when a city does is public art, and chiefly, murals. The Chicago Architecture Blog looks back on a few prominent cases of whole-building face murals being "time capsuled" by the construction of a neighboring skyscraper. It happened with the "Plug Bug", now obscured by Block37; the "Windy Whales", blocked by Avenue East; and is about to happen with "Loop Tattoo" as 73 East Lake rises. Which will reemerge from its hibernation first? [Chicago Architecture Blog, Photo: Chicago Public Art Group]
