Tony Grunsfeld-designed Modernist Retreat Lists for $1.99M

New, 4 comments

The late architect Ernest "Tony" Grunsfeld, known for a simple, tailored modernism, built many North Shore homes for wealthy clients. One brilliant and unfussy specimen is this sprawling Northbrook house built to the edge of a private lake. From the latter part of Grunsfeld's career, you can tell it was meant for high-maintenance folks with few kids: there are six bathrooms to only three bedrooms. Archaeological evidence aside, this gem has 18' ceilings, walls of windows, boatloads of marble, updated amenities, and a very open floorplan that rolls you out to the marble patio, pool, and lake just beyond. Some may find the home's exterior a wee cartoonish— it is a little like a CGI office park. Others will delight in it, we're sure. New-to-market, the 7,100-square-foot showstopper is asking $1.99M.
