This just in: Ald. Brendan Reilly has issued a bombshell remark on the Old Prentice preservation spat. Speaking to an audience at a City Club of Chicago luncheon, the alderman said exactly this, per The Tribune: "My inclination, unfortunately, would be to allow the university to proceed with its plans. I remain open to suggestions. And believe me, if there's a Eureka moment, I'm all ears. The last thing I want to do is take down important architecture in the central business district." It's hard to say whether Ald. Reilly comes across as defeatist or disingenuous. Either way, there's nothing encouraging in this for preservationists. [Trib, previously]
