The needs and desires of Chicago's "most discriminating seniors" may have to wait a while, with the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents (SOAR) reporting that development momentum for the 850 N Lake Shore Drive senior living conversion has sputtered. SOAR received word from owner Integrated Development that, owing to the recent bankruptcy of arch-rival The Clare, the risk in building such a quantity of luxury senior housing is too great. The former home of the Lakeshore Athletic Club, the intent was to preserve the facade of the 1924 Beaux Arts building and completely renovate the interiors, supplying 145 independent living and 30 assisted living apartments. According to SOAR, the owner is considering new, unspecified uses. [SOAR]
