Pullman as National Park?

New, 19 comments

WBEZ's Lee Bey informs that U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. is mounting a legislative bid for the designation of certain parts of the Pullman neighborhood as a National Park. Similar to placing an individual building on the national registry, the difference is scale and active oversight. According to Bey, the vacant Pullman Factory and Administration Building would link up with neighboring Hotel Florence (at right) and possibly other spots to form a cohesive park site. The legislation will initiate a study by the National Park Service, whose conclusions will determine whether these landmarks become the responsibility of the Department of the Interior. Such designation would mean the first National Park within city limits, and the surest route to restoration. [WBEZ]
