Casualties of the Economy: Hull House

New, 1 comment

We couldn't believe our ears at first: Jane Addams Hull House is closing. Not the museum on Halsted, but the actual living, breathing extension of the 123-year-old social service agency at 1030 W Van Buren. After years of struggling with fundraising, the agency is filing for bankruptcy. Paradoxically, the need for its services—from foster care to job training—is acute as ever. According to the Tribune, the Hull House will shift its 50-some-odd programs to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the Chicago Housing Authority, and others by the end of March.
