The Tribune is taking a long, hard look at Ty Tabing, executive director of the Chicago Loop Alliance. In 14 years of public or quasi-public service, Tabing has played a role in many projects tied to the regeneration of State Street and the Loop more generally. He helped convert the Fisher Building to apartments, produced locational enticements during the recent courtship with Boeing, and helped get Block 37 built, where he's working to fill retail vacancies. More fundamentally, he wants to draw tourists into the Loop's interior from overplayed Millennium Park and Michigan Ave. We wish him luck. Relating to tourists is a special skill. [Trib]
