The city of Chicago and the University of Chicago announced an agreement late last week to create jobs, encourage growth, and "create a vibrant South Side community" in Hyde Park. Under the deal, the U of C will spend loads of money on new construction projects, and it will also commit $2.5 million to improving the 59th Street Metra station and opening the 60th Street station. For its part, the city will "dramatically reduce the amount of time needed for permitting and licensing for these projects, and will speed up construction significantly." [Chicago Sun-Times]
