These days, Chicago architect Adrian Smith is the king of the skyscraper, but 55 years ago today Frank Lloyd Wright unveiled plans for a mile-high tower that would dwarf any of Smith's creations. The Illinois, as it became known, would have had 528 floors with 18 million square feet of floor space.
