19th Century Meets 21st Century in the East Village for $259K

New, 3 comments

Here, we have top-floor duplex in a charming old brick apartment building that was recently converted to condos in the East Village. In contrast to the vintage exterior, the interior of this 3BD, 2BA unit was recently given the "deluxe" treatment, a virtual copy-and-paste from the interiors of the many new-construction condos and houses in the neighborhood. Not very adventurous, but not particularly offensive, either. While we're on the subject of the interior, let's observe that it looks fairly dark in there. Granted, not all of the rooms are shown in the listing photos, but the ones that are look out onto the brick wall of the neighboring building, which appears to be about a foot away. The sales history for this 3BD, 2BA condo in the East Village is about as up-and-down as any recession-era condo in Chicago. According to Blockshopper, the place sold for $500,000 in early 2008, and then it promptly went into foreclosure the following year. In 2010, the bank sold it for just $53,000. Now, it's back on the market for $259,900.
