South Loop To Get a New Park on Old Jones Prep Site?

New, 2 comments

Some interesting news out of the South Loop: The Chicago Journal reports that the Chicago Public School system is planning to demolish the existing Jones College Prep school at State and Harrison and replace it with a new park and athletic facilities. Work is currently underway on a new $91-million, Perkins + Will-designed school at 700 S. State St., which is set to open in fall 2013. (See renderings of the new building here.) "It is our hope to tear down the building, build a park and straighten out Harrison," a rep from the Public Building Commission tells CJ. Plans also call for straightening out the Harrison/State intersection. Park plans are still very preliminary and subject to change; go to Chicago Journal for the deets.
