Jewel Taking Bids for a High-Rise at Clark and Division

New, 15 comments

Jewel is taking bids from several prominent developers to build a new high-rise with as many as 40 stories on the site of an existing Jewel-Osco store and surface parking lot at Clark and Division streets in the Gold Coast, Crain's reports (subscribers only), with plans to open a store in the new building. Jewel hasn't released any plans, and no NIMBY groups have stepped forward yet, but Ald. Brendan Reilly has already issued a stern warning, telling Crain's that "it would be irresponsible of any bidder to think they could build the maximum air-rights there," and that he wants to make sure that whatever gets built is "a good fit within the context of the neighborhood." Magellan, John Buck Co., and Fifield are reported to be vying for the development.
