We haven't seen a construction crane in the South Loop since the condo market crashed, but here's one big project to keep an eye on: the Tribune reports that McCormick Place is moving forward with a big expansion of Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Back in April, the SkyscraperPage boards were ablaze with talk of a second hotel tower, sparked by these renderings from TVSDesign. According to the Trib, the expansion project will add 461 rooms to the 800 currently at the hotel. Construction is set to wrap up by mid-2013.
