The Writers' Theatre announced yesterday that it had hired Studio Gang Architects to design a new 200- to 250-seat theater for the company in Glencoe. "Jeanne has a vision of architecture that is derived from her own equivalent of the word and artist: the material and the environment," said Writers' Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstam in a press release. "It is my belief that Studio Gang offers the opportunity for people to arrive encountering a world class piece of architecture and leave having experienced a world class evening of theatre." Sounds like a perfect marriage, but there's one itty-bitty little detail that'll need to be addressed before groundbreaking: Writers' Theatre hasn't raised any money for the new facility yet. Executive director Kate Lipuma tells the Reader that completion is likely three to four years off.
