Hard times got harder for Englewood when the housing market tanked, prompting thousands of people to leave the South Side neighborhood, the Tribune reports. Over the past decade, nearly 20,000 people left the neighborhood, and it's currently home to some 3,500 abandoned properties. "These abandoned buildings and houses are very dangerous," community activist Andrew Holmes told the Trib. "They're more dangerous to me than someone coming up to you with a gun." [Chicago Tribune]
