Wright's Perry House Hits the Market in Glencoe; "Needs TLC"

New, 12 comments

Here's another Frank Lloyd Wright home to add to the list of FLW homes that are currently on the market in the Chicago 'burbs. The Charles R Perry House is one of six homes in the Ravine Bluffs Development, a subdivision of FLW houses that the architect billed as "A Fireproof House for $5,000" when he designed them in 1907. (The houses, constructed mostly of wood and stucco, are actually not fireproof at all.) This one is "ready to be restored to its original grandeur," says the listing. The home is being sold 'as is' and it "needs some TLC," the listing agent adds. That's usually Realtor-speak for a home that needs some serious work. This place could use some upgrades, but it doesn't look all that bad, so maybe there's something that we aren't seeing. The 3BD, 1.5BA home is priced at $699,000. We don't have any price history on this home, but for what it's worth, the nearby Hollis Root House, which is said to be nearly identical to the Perry House, sold in 1996 for $595,000.
