Burned-Down Dominick's in Lakeview To Finally Be Rebuilt?

New, 1 comment

Almost six years ago, the Dominick's on Broadway burned down, leaving Lakeview residents utterly grocery-less. In stepped JFJ Development with a bold plan to replace the grocery store and build 53 glistening condos above it. That fantasy crumbled sometime in 2009, when JFJ defaulted on a loan and filed for bankruptcy. Today, Crain's reports that DV Urban Realty Partners, a venture co-founded by Still-Mayor Daley's nephew Robert Vanecko, has taken over the property and plans to redevelop it. DV Urban hasn't announced its plans for the site just yet, but Maureen Martino, executive director of the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce, tells Crain's that she expects a residential component to be built.

But will the Dominick's ever come back?

In March, Dominick's issued a statement: "We continue to work on a potential development with the new owner of the property who recently acquired the property through the bankruptcy auction." Sounds promising!
