Greenpeacers Climb Smokestack

Early this morning, eight Greenpeace activists scaled a smokestack at the Fisk Generating Station in Pilsen in an effort to convince the city to shut down both that plant and the nearby Crawford plant. Protestor Kelly Mitchell called the Sun-Times on her cell phone from the 450-foot smokestack, assuring the paper that all members involved were experienced climbers. "We're going to stay up here until Edison International and the city understand we can’t continue to have old, dirty coal plants in the city of Chicago," she said. [Sun-Times]
