The blog A-Ville Daily notes the irony that the city hastily demolished the architecturally-significant main Michael Reese Hospital building on the Near South Side as preservationists moaned, meanwhile the long-vacant Edgewater Hospital remains in a similarly dilapidated state, with no plans for demolition. "It is neither secure, nor has been properly maintained, which is a recipe for disaster," says Lisa Hand, a board member of West Edgewater Area Residents. "The property is deteriorating rapidly - there is crumbling masonry, broken windows, litter strewn about the building." [A-Ville Daily]
