Renderings of New 49-Story Tower at Lakeshore East Released

New, 4 comments

Ever since work was finished on Jeanne Gang's iconic Aqua tower, we've wondered how Magellan Development would follow it up. Would they build another sculpture at Lakeshore East? Would they enlist the services of an international starchitect? Or would they skimp on design in this era of austerity? None of the above. For months we've known that Brininstool Kerwin & Lynch had been tapped to design Building A (as it's known), a new rental high-rise fronting Wacker Drive, just east of the knife-like Swissotel. Now, we finally have some renderings to look at. Like most of Brininstool & Lynch's recent work (550 St. Clair, 720 S. Michigan), the 49-story building looks sleek, modern and glassy.

From the BKL website:

"The façade is a composition of light and translucency. On the east and west façades, clear, translucent and fritted glass combine with aluminum to form a curtain wall. Continuous, inset balconies on the north and south elevations provide views of the city skyline and Millennium Park."The building will have 499 apartments, 18,000 square feet of retail space, and 18,000 square feet of amenities, including an outdoor lap pool, a fitness center, saunas, and media rooms (pictured). Over the winter, we heard that groundbreaking was scheduled for June, but recent reports have said that construction is set to begin this month.
