Cicero Bungalow Gut-Rehabbed and Green Certified

In Cicero, a circa 1928 property has undergone a major transformation from a dilapidated bungalow filled with gang graffiti to a modern, liveable, and energy-efficient home. It's the first NAHB green-certified rehab in Illinois, according to developer Chris McAuliffe, whose firm CM Real Estate Development plans to list the property for $129,900. (The 3-bedroom pad was listed for $50,900 back in 2010). In addition to a complete remodeling of the 1,096-square-foot home, the greenie upgrades include a tankless water heater, Energy Star appliances, insulated attic windows, recycled garage roof and siding materials. But being eco-friendly comes at a premium. The average price of homes sold in Cicero is $77,220.
