"I call it an estate, because it feels like a suburban estate," says listing agent Nancy Tassone about the massive four-story mansion that hit the market in Lakeview yesterday. Indeed, it looks and feels more like something you'd find in Lake Forest or Winnetka, but this 10,000-square-foot manse is located at the end of a private cul-de-sac in Lakeview. The home, along with many others in the neighborhood, was built by JDL Development in 2005, but according to Tassone, the owner's kids have grown up, and 10,000 square feet quite a bit of space for a couple. The place is built for kids; the builders dug the basement extra deep so the owners would be able to practice jump shots in the half-court basketball court. There's also a rec room with a pool table and other games.
Most of the nearby homes are built very close together; this one is pretty close to its only neighbor, but Tassone points out that because it's on the corner lot it also has three exposures. In the back, there's a small yard and a bluestone patio with a pergola that looks out on Chi Che Wang Park. The 4BD, 7BA home also has an elevator and an attached three-car garage with a heated driveway. The home is currently listed at $4,495,000. "Nothing like this have ever sold in the neighborhood, but nothing like this has ever been built," says Tassone, explaining how she and the seller determined the price.
